Why we chose to add templates to our Services.
Templates have been around forever. They were once thought of as the cheap alternative for those who couldn’t afford to hire a web designer. Not very well regarded, they were clunky, awkward, amateurish, and well… cheap looking. Not anymore! Gone are the days when you buy a template for $45 bucks and it looked like your cousin made it for free, and it broke 3 weeks after you launched it! The Templates you can find today are still very much a cheap alternative to those who can’t afford to hire a web designer, but they have matured to where you can now find beautiful, gorgeous, elegant websites that are similar to those done by a Pro! Because guess what? They are done by a Pro! At least ours are. In a parallel universe, in my town, Portland Oregon, something similar has happened with food carts. It used to be that food carts were super cheap, but also super sketchy on quality, taste, and selection. You never knew what you were going to get. Could be edible, might not be. It’s decidedly different now. “Real” chefs are setting up their side gigs in little Airstream trailers all across town, putting out some incredible food. It’s legit! They are charging more than they used to, but they aren’t charging as much as they do in their established restaurants!

That’s a lot!
Depending on the quality and talent of the web designer you hire, there’s no guarantee the finished product will be any better than those old $45 templates. Not to mention the time it takes for said web designer to clear his/her schedule, mock up some ideas, design, develop, ask for feedback, implement feedback, dot all the i’s and cross all t’s. It’s a process that potentially takes a lot of time away from showing off your brand pronto and getting back to what it is you do best.
At 9inedesign, we decided to build several (more coming soon) Pro websites with the same quality and attention to detail that we would with our high paying custom clients. In exchange for a small fee, we would hope that this would give all sorts of small businesses and entrepreneurs and gig workers the opportunity to get into a Pro website that wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise. Since we’ve already done the Lion’s share of the work already, all you have to do is add your own images, your own text, your own flavor with just a small amount of effort. With the user friendly Squarespace platform it’s easy stuff. We have priced them at $297. Imagine asking a Pro web designer with 20+ years of experience to build you an amazing Pro web site for $297! Not a chance.
